Step 1 - Measurements:

Deck Installation - Railing Construction

Figure out the material you need to complete your deck railing.

Click on the thumbnails for more information.

Step 2 - Baluster Locations:

Put the two 2x4’s together and place them on edge. Mark the midpoint of your measurement from step 1 on the 1 ½” side of each 2x4. Mark the baluster locations

4 ½” center along the 2x4’s. This will leave your balusters 3 ¾” apart.

Apply your stain and finish on your railings and posts.

:End

Step 3 - Baluster Connectors:

Install the Deck Rail Solutions baluster connectors on the top and bottom at the 4 ½” locations. When using “Treated Lumber” install a nylon washer under the connector ACQ lumber is made up of alkaline and copper and is corrosive to aluminum. Please let us know with your order we will send them with your order at no cost.

:End

Step 4 - Install Bottom:

Install your bottom railing, and then tap the balusters down on to the connectors with a rubber mallet, put a block the same distance from your deck to the bottom rail so you do not move the bottom rail when you are pounding the balusters down.

:End

Step 5 - Install Top:

Start from one end and tap the top railing down this works best with two people.

:End

Step 6 - Finish Installation:

When the railings don’t want to come together use a couple of pipe clamps.

:End

Step 7 - Baluster Centerpiece:

Install a centerpiece for an extra accent. With sections over six foot we recommend fastening a block between the deck and the bottom railing in the middle of the railing. We recommend fasting a block between the deck and the bottom railing on all composite railings.
